While 3D modeling has become increasingly common in prototype production, ENKA VINYL continues to sculpt each figure by hand in clay. We value the warmth and individuality of handmade work while pursuing forms that are true to soft vinyl.
Slush molding is a uniquely Japanese method dating back to the Showa period. Mold structure places certain limits on shape and detail, and it is not always suited to extremely fine expression or complex part assemblies. By embracing those qualities, however, we can create nostalgia reminiscent of Showa-era sofvi, along with simple yet powerful sculptural expression.
Each piece is finished by skilled artisans using airbrushes and brushes. Unlike uniform machine painting, the texture and slight variations unique to handwork become defining characteristics of the product.
Extremely fine details created by tampo printing or digital painting on modern figures can also be difficult to reproduce with hand-painted soft vinyl. For that reason, we focus on overall balance, beautiful color, and the warmth that only analog finishing can provide.
A: As of July 2026, we do not offer permanent sales, but we intend to expand our selection of regularly available products going forward.
A: As a rule, we do not reissue the same product. If we do, we intend to alter the color scheme.
A: We plan to actively participate in events both in Japan and overseas. We will announce in advance through our website, email newsletters, and social media.
A: We primarily develop licensed sofvi figures, but we also plan to sell original design sofvi such as those produced in collaboration with artists.
A: We do not plan to regularly sell unpainted figures. However, we plan to offer blank figures made of glow-in-the-dark material as limited pre-sales at events.
A: As of now, we have no plans to offer them through ENKA VINYL. We will continue to sell sofvi figures under SwimmyDesignLab name via the @swdl_sofvi Instagram account.
